Founded in 1954, the Romanian Unirea Urziceni football club has an interesting history: a long time ago there was a little club in Urziceni called “Ialomita” which played against local teams Ploie?ti, Buz?u and Slobozia. The team also played against German clubs who had settled there. In 1976 the club acquired a stadium called Tineretului, situated near the vineyards of Hagienoff. The first taste of success came in 1988 when the squad qualified to compete in the Romanian Cup. They lost a decisive match but the experience had made them hungry for more success. Promotion after promotion to higher divisions followed and all the hard work paid off in the end: in 2006 they secured entry into the illustrious Liga I! A new sponsor, Valahorum, had the stadium expanded and it is now known as the Stadion Unirea Valahorum.
