Romanian football club FC Timi?oara, or Politehnica Timisoara is a club with a complicated history of ownership: former owner Claudio Zambon claims he owns the rights to the name and the colours of the squad (white and violet); after years of bad results Zambon decided to move his team away from Timisoara in 2001, to a small village on the outskirts of Bucharest. In this very year, however, a certain Anton Dobo? (who used to play for AEK Athens) moved a new team into the city of Bucharest, named Politehnica AEK Timisoara. This team was soon regarded as the ‘one and only Poli’ by fans. The club has been successful in the national Liga I of Romania as well as in Europe: in 2008 the team is even scheduled to compete in the UEFA Cup. Officially founded in 1921, the FC Timisoara football club has a colourful past, indeed: originally the team colours of the squad were black and white, changing into white and blue in the 1950s and finally into the current colours white and violet in 1966. In the 2007-2008 season they managed to become 6th in the Romanian Liga I competition, which was a welcome achievement after a few mediocre years under, among others, coach and former star player Gheorge Hagi. After a few successful transfers, the 2008 roster of the Alb-Violetii (White-Violets) features players such as Arman Karamyan, Gigel Bucur and Dorin Goga, players who are expected to lead the squad to great heights.
