Le Grand Macabre Tickets
Le Grand Macabre is the only opera by György Ligeti, a composer born to a Hungarian Jewish family. This two act opera was composed between 1975 and 1977, was revised in 1996, and was written together with Michael Meschke. Ligeti wanted to make an ‘anti-anti-opera’ of this piece, and it resulted into a piece that is ironic and full of ambiguities. The first time, this opera was performed in Stockholm in 1978. The Dramatis personæ of the opera Le Grand Macabre are Amanda and Amando, a heterosexual couple, but played by two women, the drunken Piet the Pot, Nekrotzar, Astradamor, Mescalina and Prince Go-go amongst others.
