Tower of Power began to take shape in the mid-1960s when the 17-year old saxophonist Emilio Castillo held auditions for a band that he was planning to form. Hiring Stephen “The Funky Doctor” Kupka with his baritone sax, the foundations of Tower of Power were laid. After a gig in 1970, Tower of Power was signed to the San Francisco record label under which the band recorded their first album ‘East Bay Grease’. Their next album ‘Bump City’ spawned the songs that are so well-known with every Tower of Power fan: “You’re Still a Young Man” and “Down To The Nightclub”. Also the subsequent self-titled album contained several succesful singles, such as “What’s Hip”. Renowned in the international music industry, Tower of Power has performed in concert with a diverse range of artists including Aerosmith, Elton John, Santana and Phish.
