This groundbreaking work brought to light the struggle that black South Africans were suffering under apartheid. Miriam Makeba won the Dag Hammarskjöld Peace Prize in 1986 as a delegate to the United Nations and the Gold Otto Hahn Peace Medal by the United Nations Association of Germany (DGVN) in Berlin in 2001.
